Why Maintain a Strong Core?
Why Maintain a Strong Core?
In our Positive habits relating to chiropractic care blog we covered a few habits that could enhance the effects of a chiropractic adjustment. If you haven’t already read that blog I encourage you to give it a read before diving into this one, as they both correlate. That being said if you have read the Positive habits relating to chiropractic care blog, you understand the importance of implementing positive habits into your daily life to enhance spinal health. There are many aspects to each habit I would like to discuss as they all play a vital role, not only for your spinal health and chiropractic care but with our overall well-being. By implementing this one habit into your daily routine, you could notice a significant difference in how your body feels and moves. The habit we will discuss is the importance of maintaining a strong core, the reason I want to talk about this topic is because it has a very high impact on our health and ability to attain optimal spinal health for our overall well-being and longevity.
Whether you are someone who sees their chiropractor regularly or only when in pain or discomfort, maybe you have never seen a chiropractor and are interested. This blog can be a helpful tool in understanding the importance of spinal health relating to core strength. The core of your body includes muscles in your abdomen, pelvis, low back and hips, we utilize these muscles daily for support, stability and strength throughout our entire body and spine. Our core stabilizes our spine which helps maintain proper alignment and prevents movements that could lead to strain or injury.
Spinal strain and injury can be caused by many factors, all which could be reduced by having a strong core. How we maintain and use our core daily, directly impacts how much our spine is protected in cases that could cause injury. For example if you take a hard fall with a weak core, you are more susceptible to cause injury to your spine directly. Compared to having a strong core that is maintained, falling will have less of a possibility to cause injury to the spine. The abdominal muscles such as the oblique’s and rectus abdominis wrap around the spine acting as a shield, there to protect our spine from any impact that could cause damage. These muscles can be activated through core exercises such as sit ups, crunches, russian twists, leg raises, and rotating crunches.
Our spine has a network of nerves that play a vital role in keeping our spine healthy and if taken care of they can reduce pain and discomfort from arising as we age. To keep our spinal nervous system healthy we can perform balance exercises while engaging our core as much as possible. Having good balance can protect us from many injuries that could occur from a fall, therefor important to continuously strengthen and exercise our core and nervous systems.
A strong core contributes to the muscular balance in your body which can reduce the imbalance that could lead to misalignment. Proper poster and stability are results of a healthy spine indicating a strong core. When your spin is properly aligned after a chiropractic adjustment, the results could have long lasting results ensuring optimal spinal health simply by incorporating core exercises daily and flexing your core with movement. I hope this blog helped you learn why having a strong core is important for your spinal health and how it may reduce the number of chiropractic treatments needed by helping your body stay aligned.
